A while back I did a poll with all the moms in the area I lived. What do you dislike about having photos professionally done. So many responded with planning the family’s outfits. And as a mom, I totally get how stressful that is, so I’ve put together a small list to help you with your outfits. I don’t know about you, but frustration-free prepping for family photos sounds pretty freaking good!
Unless you’re paying a good deal for a photo to keep on your cell, you’re probably planning on putting it in your home somewhere. Think about if you want your outfits to match or to coordinate with colors you’re already using in your home, so that your new image compliments your current décor.
Remember those photos hanging up in grandma’s house that everyone is all wearing the same blue button up. Yeah, as much as I love the nostalgia there, it really isn’t the most flattering look. Coordinating colors will give a cohesive feel without the exact matching.
Don’t plan everybody’s outfit at the same time. For example, start with mom’s outfit and then coordinate the remaining outfits based on the colors of mom’s outfit.
To add more personality and texture, add layers, like a blazer or add jewelry for a little pop.
If that’s still too much, hire a stylist or a photographer that offers styling. Your clothing choices really do impact the aesthetic of your photo and it is totally worth to take the time or money to style your families outfits.
